Along the way, she’s gathered a legion of fans with her good looks and easy charm. She can currently be seen on the news program Red Eye w/Greg Gutfeld, where she serves as a guest contributor.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland on April 22nd, 1980, Friel grew up in a Philadelphia suburb along with her two sisters. Her early goal in life was to be a television weather girl, and she spent hours producing shows in Methacton High School’s TV studio. She was cast in a Love’s Baby Soft perfume commercial on MTV, and that helped land her a role on Kid TV, a news program seen in schools across the country, during their Student Produced Week.

She attended Elon University in North Carolina for her first year of college, but the lack of real news stories caused her to move to Los Angeles. There, she took an internship with MTV News and did freelance work for the Oxygen Network (including the teen-oriented show, Trackers). She obtained a BA in Political Science (with a minor in Broadcast Journalism) from San Diego State University, and she later interned at the local NBC affiliate, KNSD.

Friel sent out resume tapes and soon landed a job with WBBJ in Jackson, Tennessee. She shot, edited and wrote her stories (the first of which was a tornado that totaled her car and destroyed much of the town).

To prepare for the WPT, she was sent to a poker boot camp. She did very well there, even winning her first student tournament by defeating Mike Sexton. Friel’s stint with the WPT was a success, but she moved on the following year in pursuit of bigger and better opportunities.
