Introducing: Miriam Spickler

Born Miriam Spickler on January 27th, 1955 in Coral Gables, Florida, Rogers was raised by a Jewish father and an Episcopalian mother. Her father, Philip J. Spickler, was employed as a civil engineer. The family moved around a great deal, even living in England for a time. Eventually, they would settle in Southern California.

A bright child, Mimi graduated from high school when she was only 14. Instead of going to college immediately, she devoted a number of years to doing community service work. Afterwards, she went to college and then made her television debut in 1982 opposite Harry Hamlin in Blue Skies Again.

Early in life, Rogers became a member of the Church of Scientology. In 1977, she married her first husband, Jim Rogers, himself a Scientologist. They divorced in 1980, and in the following years, Mimi began to carve out a career for herself in movies and television.

During this period, she also introduced football player John Brodie to Scientology, as well as the late Sonny Bono. Years later, Rogers would part ways with the religion.

Rogers went on to star in Hider in the House, Desperate Hours, The Doors and a controversial film known as The Rapture. In March of 1993, she posed nude for Playboy magazine and discussed her marriage with Cruise and her life to that point.

Cooling Down

Her career was waning by that point, and she appeared in a number of independent films and lesser known works such as Monkey Trouble and Shooting Elizabeth. In 1995, she starred in Full Body Massage and thrilled fans by being fully nude for much of the film.

In 1995, she also gave birth to her first child, Lucy. Conceived with partner Chris Ciaffa, the couple would also have a son, Charlie, in 2001 and later marry in 2003. She and Ciaffa had been living together since 1990.

And Heating Back Up

In the late 90s, Rogers’ career got hot again, thanks to a role in the smash hit Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. The following year, she would play the female lead in the remake of Lost in Space, as well as appearing on the cult television show The X-Files.

As the new millennium rolled around, Rogers continued to appear in films but also added a number of cable television roles to her resume, such as Cave In and Charms for the Easy Life. In 2004, the 48-year-old Rogers generated buzz by appearing nude in the film The Door in the Floor, and the movie would go on to be considered a critical success.
